The ACT is a standardized test that is 3 hours and 35 minutes long and is used to measure a student's academic abilities. It consists of 4 mandatory sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. There's also an optional Writing section for a total of five sections. Colleges use the results from this test to help them determine who will be admitted into their programs.
Whether you're just starting out or you've been preparing for a while, I can help you raise your scores significantly. Together we will boost your verbal reasoning skills, tackle core math concepts, enhance your reading comprehension abilities, and increase your vocabulary.
The work we do together during our lessons is only part of the process. To ensure that you get the best preparation possible, I will have you apply the knowledge you've learned to homework, drills, and full-length practice tests.
The ACT is a very predictable test, so by becoming familiar with the ins and outs of the test itself, we can ensure that you feel confident on the day of the exam. The less surprises you encounter, the less anxiety you'll feel and the better you'll do.
The ACT does not take any points off if you get an answer wrong, so make sure not to leave any questions unanswered. Each of the four mandatory sections has a scoring range of 1 to 36 points. Your final score for the entire test is the average of those four sections.
If you choose to take the writing section, your essay will be evaluated by two graders. They will analyze your essay using four different criteria, assigning a score of 1 to 6 for each. Your Writing score is then calculated by averaging the four scores, resulting in a total ACT Writing score ranging from 2 to 12. This score will NOT change your overall ACT score, but it will reveal more about your writing skills.
If after the test you want to cancel your scores, you can ask the test supervisor for a "Request to Cancel Test Scores" form. You will have a few days to mull over your decision, but your completed form must be submitted no later than the Wednesday after the test in order for the cancellation to be processed.
